TLILIC0003 - Licence to operate a forklift truck
To operate a Forklift, you need a LF High Risk Work Licence.
The TLILIC0003 - Licence to operate a forklift truck course provides the formal training and accredited assessment which will allow you to apply for a Queensland HRW Licence for Forklift Truck - LF.
TLILIC0003 - Licence to operate a forklift truck is ideal for people working in a warehouse or other workplace where a forklift ticket is required.
A forklift truck is equipped with a mast and an elevating load carriage with a pair of fork arms (that can be raised 900 mm or more above the ground) or other load holding attachment.
Forklift training in this course covers the skills and knowledge required to safely and efficiently operate a forklift, including pre and post-operational checks, planning work, locating load and load characteristics, moving loads, driving the forklift in a safe manner, correctly shutting down and securing the forklift after operations are complete, and site clean up.
This forklift licence course has been developed in accordance with the licensing and assessment requirements of NOHSC:1006[2001].
Course outline:

Plan work – Identify potential hazards, ensure hazard control measures are appropriate, inspect working area

Conduct routine checks – Check forklift for damage, ensure signage and labels are visible, pre and post operational checks

Shift load – Assess load weight, operate forklift at safe speed, move load safely and avoid hazards

Shut down and secure forklift – Park forklift to avoid hazards, shut down and secure forklift according to appropriate procedures
Certification:
On successful completion of the theory and practical assessment, students will receive:

a Statement of Attainment nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework

a High Risk Work Candidate Assessment Summary

Within 60 days of completing the course, participants will need to apply for a High Risk Work Licence through the Queensland Government, and pay a fee of $106.11. The Queensland Government High Risk Work Licence application process must be followed.
You will also be provided with all course materials, including a Forklift Learners Guide, a 'Training Plan' and 'Training Record- Logbook'.
Assessment:
This Forklift Licence course includes 1 day of assessment, where participants will be required to successfully demonstrate Workplace Health and Safety knowledge and practical skills.
‘Closed book’ written knowledge, calculation and practical skills will be assessed by WHS Accredited Assessor.
Am I eligible?

You must be at least 18 years old

Have basic English and Maths skills (to be able to identify and interpret workplace signs and apply yourself to the course material).

What is a LF Licence?
A LF High Risk Work Licence is required to operate a forklift truck.
High Risk Work Licences are issued by WorkSafe Queensland (phone 1300 362 128). Once you have completed TLILIC0003 - Licence to operate a forklift truck training and assessment, you will need to apply online for a High Risk Work Licence, within 60 days.
What does a LF Licence cover?
A LF Licence covers forklift trucks with a mast and elevating load carriage which has a pair of fork arms. A LF Licence does not include order-picking forklift trucks.
How do I apply for the LF High Risk Work Licence?
Once you complete the training and assessment of the TLILIC0003 - Licence to operate a forklift truck training course, you will be provided a High Risk Work (HRW) Candidate Assessment Summary.
You can then complete the WorkSafe Queensland online application for a new HRW Licence and pay the $106.11 application fee, within 60 days of successfully completing the Forklift course.
How long does a LF Licence last?
High Risk Work Licences must be renewed every 5 years.
How do you renew your HRW Licence?
You will receive a renewal notice from WorkSafe Queensland 4-6 weeks before your expiry date, and will need to follow the HRW Licence renewal process or you can call WorkSafe Queensland on 1300 362 128.
Is a telehandler / Manitou a High Risk Licence
The licencing requirements for a telehandler differ based on the capacity and attachments:

a non-slewing telehandler with a lifting capacity greater than 3 tonne and fitted with a boom or jib and hook block requires a CN High Risk Work Licence.

a slewing or non-slewing telehandler fitted with a personnel box / work platform that extends 11m or more also requires a WP High Risk Work Licence
-
a telehandler fitted with bucket or forks requires the Telehandler training course.
